Why You Should Grab Some:
I absolutely love hemp seeds. Why?
For starters, they are one of the healthiest things you can put into your body.
Hemp protein is one of the few plant-based proteins that’s actually complete, meaning it contains adequate amounts of all nine of the essential amino acids. It’s also one of the easiest proteins for your body to digest and the bio availability is extremely high.
They’re also extremely rich in other nutrients. Hemp seeds are a great source of vitamin E and minerals, such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc. Of particular importance to me is the magnesium, of which up to 70% of adults are deficient. The benefits are countless but I like it because it has a relaxing affect and helps induce a deeper sleep once you fall asleep.
And it doesn’t stop there. Hemp seeds are loaded with healthy fats, particularly omega-3. Fish is the main source of the heart disease-fighting omega-3 fats eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), but some plant-based foods also contain omega-3 in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which helps heart health as well. It also helps fight inflammation and aids weight loss, among other things.
Hemp seeds on their own don’t taste too great. They have a slight nutty flavor but they’re pretty bland. What I like to do is put them into a food processor and grind them into hemp butter. (Like peanut butter or almond butter, but with hemp seeds.) Be sure to season well with salt (I add about 9 g of salt for every 300 g of hemp seeds, but you should start with a little bit less and add more to taste). Once it’s been ground into a smooth butter and well seasoned, it’s absolutely delicious! The perfect thing to snack on.
This price at Costco is absolutely amazing. It’s literally HALF of what Whole Foods charges! $0.60 per ounce for a 24 ounce bag, making the full price $14.49. At Whole Foods it’s $14.49 for a 12 ounce bag! Every time I’m at Costco I snag a bag of these. You should too
